Many forklifts operate on gas. Gas forklift cylinders are used to store and supply fuel to the engine. They must be highly durable, resistant to corrosion and pressure, ensuring safe operation in all conditions.
Types of gas cylinders
Forklift engines can run on two types of gas fuel. This is liquefied propane-butane, which is produced from oil. It is cheaper than the second type – natural gas methane – but it is explosive. Methane is not liquefied.
For pumping propane-butane, 2 types of gas cylinders are used, which differ in shape: cylindrical and toroidal (similar to a donut). Only cylindrical containers are suitable for methane.
Gas cylinders for forklifts also differ in the volume of fuel pumped in. They hold 24, 27, 35, 47 or 50 liters of gas. There are much larger vessels that hold up to 95 liters of gas (toroidal) or 230 liter cylindrical ones. There is no point in using them on forklifts. The most popular forklift containers are 27 liters.
For efficient operation on liquefied gas, the cylinder is equipped with a special spark-proof copper tube. There is no need to constantly drain the condensate before filling. The gas from the vessel equipped with such a tube is completely exhausted.
